Why does The Body Shop claim to be 100% Vegetarian but not Vegan?Updated a month ago

We use honey and beeswax in most of our non-vegan products for their exceptional cosmetic benefits and because they come from our trusted Community Trade partners. Our honey is sourced from organic, wild-harvested bees in Ethiopia, and our beeswax comes from sustainably managed hives in Cameroon. We maintain long-standing relationships with these partners, ensuring bee communities are carefully protected to thrive. A small number of products also contain shellac, a natural secretion from the lac insect found in Assam and Thailand, and lanolin, an oil from sheep’s wool—both harvested without harm to animals. Committed to ethical sourcing, we are phasing out animal-derived ingredients except for our Community Trade honey and beeswax, and have not developed new products with lanolin or shellac in years.
